Reunion UpdateNovember 16, 17, 18, 2007
Gentlemen,
Some Squadron mates have express
interest in having a reunion in Pensacola this autumn.
Ed Copher, the VA-163 SDO, suggested this be a combined re-union as both
squadrons served together aboard the Oriskany. However, they just had a
reunion in October in Jacksonville, so I don't know how much interest
this will generate with the Saints. Regardless of the number, I think
we should welcome any Saint that would like to attend.
I've
been in contact with the Naval Air Museum to see if we could have the
reunion in the Cubi Bar Cafe. They were very gracious and will be happy
to assist us with the reunion. Due to the Museum being booked solid the
first two weeks of November, that leaves us with the 17th of
November as the only open date before the holiday season. I
have had commitments from enough individuals
to make it a go.
The costs will
depend on the number of attendees. The Cubi Bar Cafe is limited
to catering to 100 people, but I don't think we will have that
many. If we do, we can find someone else to cater the party. Trying to
keep the cost down, we think just a long weekend, arriving Friday having
the reunion from 6 pm to 10 pm Saturday and back home Sunday. We will
try to have a buffet breakfast Saturday and Sunday at one of the service
clubs. The reunion get-together could be dinner or just cocktail
snacks. We can vote on this later and see what the costs will be.
If you are interested in attending or know of
someone who might, please contact me or Jeff Brown

We will add you
to the reunion list and keep you advise of our progress.
Look like Marty Vanover and Jeff Brown have taken over The reunion plans for 2007: March 11, 2007
As far as a
reunion goes, we (me and Jeff
Brown) are now in the planning
stages for one in October/November this year at Pensacola. I have
talked to the people of the Museum and the Cubi Bar Cafe is available
for private catered parties evenings.
It looks like the VA-163 guys
may show up too. I think a three day affair would work best for most.
In on Friday, out on Sunday. But if it
grows into something big we can plan something longer. I think
we could arrange a Saturday breakfast and do the Musuem or visit old
haunts / tourist sites in the
afternoon, then meet at the Cubi Bar Saturday night for a dinner or
heavy bar snacks, then depart on Saturday morning. I am hoping some of
the retired shipmates can sponser us non-retiree's and check us into the
Navy Lodge. I have stayed there and it is pretty nice. But, if
necessary we can block some rooms at a hotel. It looks like we have
enough interest to do this. I'll keep everyone advised of our progress
and the final dates in the not
too distant future.
